Involved in environmental issues since he was at school, at a time when showing concern about the planet was seen as distinctly odd… our director’s worked in sustainability roles across multiple sectors over several decades, and is one of the most experienced experts you’ll find anywhere.

A graduate of Napier/SRUC in Edinburgh, Luke is currently a postgraduate science student focusing his studies on the circular economy within the agri-food sector.

Plastic mulches in agriculture and horticulture - grappling with the environmental consequences

We've just completed some research into the use of plastic mulches in horticulture and agriculture... the usage of such mulches are increasing substantially, worldwide, yet we can't find much data on their environmental impacts - a problem highlighted by Blanco et al. (2018). How many food LCAs integrate plastic mulches into their carbon and other environmental impact data? Very few, sadly - this is clearly an environmental blind spot that needs to be addressed.
